FUSION Volleyball - Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is club volleyball? Club volleyball is volleyball in the winter and spring of the year, supported by USAVolleyball that provides student athletes the opportunity to compete in their schools off-season. Our USAVolleyball Region is the Sun Country Region, including member club programs in Texas, New Mexico, and now, southwest Colorado. Club volleyball is financially supported by the parents of the athletes.
  • What is SURVA? The Sun Country Region Volleyball Association (SURVA) is an independent organization formed under the umbrella of United States Volleyball Association which coexists with 38 other regions in the United States dedicated to the furtherance of play of the sport of volleyball. The primary purpose is to foster development of players, coaches and officials.
  • Why do I have to register for SURVA? All participants MUST register with USA Volleyball. This means all teams, players, coaches, team representatives, officials, chaperones, tournament directors or anyone actively involved in tournaments or practices.
  • What about insurance? Players, coaches and chaperones must provide their own primary insurance. Secondary/supplemental health insurance and liability coverage is provided as part of the USAV registration fee. Clubs are required to obtain a certificate of insurance form from the SURVA Secretary to provide proof of insurance for practice facilities and tournament sites.
  • What is the cost? 2010/11 pricing varies by team level.
  • Will I need to purchase a uniform? Every player must wear a uniform that complies with the current USAV rules if they are competing in a sanctioned tournament.
  • What is a “Qualifier Tournament”? This is a one-day tournament, which is considered to meet standard USAV and SURVA guidelines. Any team that wishes to participate in – or qualify for – the SURVA Regional Championships must play in three SURVA Qualifier or Inter-Regional Tournaments, at least one of which must be 115 miles one way. Entry into a SURVA Qualifier is possible only through the SURVA Tournament Coordinator, not the Tournament Director.
  • What is a “Non-Qualifier Tournament” or “Friendly Tournament”? This is a one-day tournament, wholly organized by the Tournament Director, which is more loosely structured for grass roots development. Non-Qualifiers do not meet the criteria for participating in – or qualifying for – the SURVA Regional Championships. Entry into a Non-Qualifier is possible only through the Tournament Director, not the SURVA Tournament Coordinator.
  • Where is practice? Practices are in local gyms depending on availability. The coaches will be able to determine once teams are assigned.
  • What time is practice? This will be decided by your coach.
  • When does practice start? To be determined by your coach
